The newly built Antalya Art and Culture Center exhibits the works of iconic fashion photographer Cecil Baton and 18th century painter Luigi Mayer, ahead of its official opening in fall with Pablo Picasso, Turkish photographer Ara Güler, and Andy Warhol slated for 2016.
Antalya to host works of Picasso, Ara Güler, Cecil Beaton and Andy Warhol
Built on the site formerly hosting the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the TRY 6.2 million cultural center will host a collection of Cecil Beaton’s works from Sotheby’s as well as famous Ottoman-era Italian-German painter Luigi Mayer, until September 6.
The September official opening will host works of Pablo Picasso and iconic Turkish photographer Ara Güler. The five story cultural center, which aspires to develop the popular tourism destination’s art and culture attractions, has also slated works of Andy Warhol for 2016.
The Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO) President Davut Çetin expressed that Antalya needed to boost its arts and culture as a new area for economic development. “Major cities are seeking out for development in the area as a tool to bolster economy. To this end, there is competition in the area of opera halls, museums and cultural centers—and Turkey is still behind.”
According to the recently signed protocol, management of the center will be with the Suna Kıraç foundation for 10 years. The foundation notably undertook the renovation of the Pera Hotel in Taksim, Istanbul, converting it into a museum.
